StartRight EQ™ is a paper - pencil questionnaire that requires less than 30 minutes to complete. It is self-scoring and produces results that are straight-forward and easy to interpret. StartRight EQ™ produces a total score and six ability scores. These ability scores include Thinking/Learning, a measure of mental ability or reasoning, and five measures of work style to include People Relations, Productivity, Stress Tolerance, Accepting Rules/Supervision and Judgment.

A new predictor of automotive Technician productivity

The pre-employment hiring process can have a significant, positive impact on productivity and profitability of a service department. In economic terms, the gains from increasing the accuracy of hiring methods (good vs. bad hires) can have a substantial bottom-line impact as demonstrated by the current research. Or, viewed from the opposite perspective, using less than optimal hiring methods with low predictive accuracy can cost service departments millions of dollars over time due to lower than expected performance. Even with proven advancements in hiring technology, however, many service managers continue to rely on hiring methods that produce results no better than chance. They use ambiguous interviews and outdated tests of mechanical aptitude when they could be using more accurate hiring methods designed based on personnel testing science. This article describes a new hiring tool entitled "StartRight Employment Questionnaire™ (EQ)" and summarizes the results of a project involving 158 automotive technicians representing 12 dealerships. The objective of the project was to measure the predictive accuracy of the StartRight EQ™ in predicting productivity for automotive technicians.
